The Sunset Hike

It is 1,180 feet of ascent over 2.1 miles on a rough path, which is less than it sounds and steeper than it reads. You get to the cairn about twenty minutes before the sun goes, and then nothing happens for forty minutes, which is the point.

There is a thermos of hot rum or tea. Coming down in the dark with headlamps takes half an hour and is most of what people remember.

6:30 on the terrace above the beach, forty-five minutes, and you are at breakfast by eight.

Two bays with the course loaded on them and eleven others. Booked by the hour rather than by the tee time, from nine in the morning until ten at night.

The harbor town, and the only trip that leaves the property

Four hours in the harbor town twenty minutes up the coast: the fish market at the end of its morning, the wall, and lunch somewhere a guide eats.

How each one is booked

Four of the six leave at a set time and you pick the day. Two are booked by the hour and you pick how long.

Anything with a guide runs weather allowing, and the guide decides by three in the afternoon. Nothing is charged if it does not run.
