The wind

A links in everything but the name

The course runs out along the headland and back inside it, so the first nine is into whatever the sea is doing and the second nine is not. The greens are firm, the rough is dune grass, and there is no water on the property that is not the sea.

The seventh is the one people talk about afterward. It is 168 yards downhill to a green with nothing behind it, and the number on the card is almost never the club.

The course

    6,840 yards from the back tees, 5,210 from the forward.

  • Tee times from dawn

    The sheet opens at 6:00 a.m. Four hours and ten, marshalled.

  • Carts included

    In the green fee. Caddies on request, 48 hours ahead.

  • Dress

    Collared shirt, soft spikes. No denim on the course.

  • Practice ground

    Open dawn to dark and included with a round.
